Does any one know if a manual gearbox can be transplanted into
a 1986 auto magna ?? I have heard it can be done and others say it cant.

It CAN be done, after all, Mitsubishi makes them. But generally its not
worth the effort.
You have to
a) replace the current brake pedal with the brake clutch setup. The Firewall
may or may not have the cutouts for the clutch master cylinder. If not, you
have to cut them out. This is easiest done with the engine OUT of the
vehicle, and may be impossible with the engine in. Then you have to run the
hydraulic lines.
b) replace the torque converter plate with a flywheel and clutch.
c) add the gear linkage and modify/replace the center console.
d) possibly change engine / transmission mounts as the manual is a different
shape to the auto.
e) likely some electrical changes
f) all the other little gotchas that lurk in the conversion.
Its not a job for the faint of heart or the technically challenged.
Very few garages would take on a job like this. Its usually cheaper to buy a
manual car.
