Thanks Tim..Thats what I was afraid of. The A4LD has bands that I
could tighten to maybe solve my slipping problem in high gears. This
means I probably have to spend the 2k on a new tranny. Frig!

    Next question group,
If I am planning on putting in a shift-kit, new gears, and now I have
to put in a new tranny..is there any reason not to switch from an
automatic to a manual instead? If I can do this, what is generally
involved ( I wont do it myself will have a shop do)

    Thanks for the input!

you will spend more money converting over than to just replace the auto.
Unless you are building a race machine, or you just REALLY want a stick,
just either rebuild the auto, or look for a decent used one.

The other possibility is if you found a cheap donor car that you could
scavenge all the brackets, cables, crossmembers, driveline, bellhousing,
pedals, shifter, master / slave cylinders, etc etc etc ....

Honestly if you *really* want a stick you would probably be better off
(cheaper) to slap a junkyard trans in your car and sell it. Then buy a
pony with a stick and build IT up ..

I agree 110% based on "I wont do it myself will have a shop do it". The
hourly labor rate is gonna kill you if you pay some one else to do it.

Art Carr and Lentech have kits for the AOD that will give you
near stick shift performance. Swap out the stock rear gears
for 3:73's and you'll have a substantial boost in performance
for far cheaper than a stick shift swap.
