Chevrolet: an annoyance, 04 malibu brake light

my 04 malibu brake light intermitantly doesnt work. When it does this, it
turns on my vehicle maintainace required light, which doesnt alow me to use
the cruise.

The kicker..... the assembly, its an LED unit, no one has one in the
country.

any one have any suggestions?
