Nissan: Almera drivers side headlight problem, please help

I thought I had just a blown bulb, however, I have changed fuses and
bulbs and swapped drivers with passengers to prove both bulbs and
fuses are OK.

The symptoms are the following...

normal headlight mode: passengers side fine but drivers not.
flash mode: both sides fine. (ie pull the level towards you)
high beam mode: passengers side fine but the drivers not. (ie push the
level away from you)

any help would be greatfully received
