Air bag warning on E39 5series

My air bag warning light has come on four times over the last 6 months and
when reset is OK for a month or two.
It always says the problem is the drivers seat but I,m not sure what the
    likely faulty part is.
My garage thought there was a cable to be changed under the seat (about
twenty pounds) but I'm not sure whether it is or the sensor stc.
    Can anyone help.
    Many thanks

    Hi Chris

Exactly the same thing on my e39 when I brought it.

I took it to the stealership, who reported that a pre-tensioned wire under
the drivers seat? was at fault.

They looked through their records and seen that this wire had been replaced
by them quite recently and so they refitted the same part and re-soldered
it. My airbag light hasn't come on since this re-soldering in 3-4mths.

    Hope it helps
