Ford Mustang: AHH DAMN IT TO HELL

AHH DAMN IT TO HELL
Hey gang,
So I kinda guessed that my problems would not end. From all the
hell I have been through with this car I now run into another freaking
headache. So since the car was put back together and I have been using it
as a dialy driver...I have been slowly losing Prestone, but could never find
the leak. I changed every gasket...(yada yada)....checked the
pressure....everything is good! Saturday night I go out with the stang and
my G/F and it was a bit nippy out so the little lady was cold( being the
gentleman and everyhting - i put on the heater)....within 5-10 minutes my
windshield is fogging up like a son of a bitch..........and the car is
smelling kinda funky! So I turn off the heater and wipe the windshield (cuz
I can't see shit)..smell my fingers....and YUP prestone).WHat
gives...........I got home and parked the car.....the next day I forgot
about the car cuz I had to go help my parents move some furniture.....so I
took the sunfire!.......now today I am on my way to work in the
stang............I see a famous corner coming up that I always whip
around........(don't worry it's a safe corner on a backroad that no-one is
ever on)....then all of a sudden my right foot is soaking wet.........(what
the F*CK)...prestone...jumping jesus christ....what now!!!!!!!!!! Can't
stop cuz I am on my way to work and I am running late as it is.....so I get
to work and my carpets are soaked with prestone...........SH*T SH*T SH*T
SH*T SH*T SH*T SH*T SH*T SH*T SH*T SH*T SH*T .......now my guess is the
heater core is finished.......is there any other solution here! Also---if
it is the heater core.....how the hell do I change it and does anyone have a
rough idea how much one costs!!!!!
Thanks Guys
Rick

Re: AHH DAMN IT TO HELL
You did not mention the year of your car. I am going to assume 1987 -
1993. Try this link.
http://pw1.netcom.com/~skent/mustang/1990/heater_core/hcore.html
Cost of the heater core - about $40 (make sure you buy a Ford, not
aftermarket)
Heater core installation - priceless
This is a pain in the butt job. I have heard quotes from $250 to $400
labor. Being a little cheap and wanting to learn how to work on my car I
did my own. While not a hard job it is tedious. I took apart the dash
and did the installation in about 5 hours. I waited to till the next day
to put everything back together. Figured I would be more patient the
next day. Bag and label all the little screws and stuff. You can by-pass
the core for the time being.

Re: AHH DAMN IT TO HELL
Hey Bill
I was wondering...........when I bought the car, the gentleman
told me he had already changed the heater core a few years prior....so I am
guessing it is about 4 years or so old! Do they normally have such a short
life!?
IS it really a 5 hour job to do this!!!!
Thanks
Rick

Re: AHH DAMN IT TO HELL
Rick,
On an early car such as yours, 3 hours tops, and that includeds
removing the center console and passenger seat..................Beware
of anything a DPO (that would be dreaded previous owner) states unless
backed up with paperwork to prove things....................

To Bill or anybody else who would know. I also need to replace my core.
Can I also do the Evap at the same time ? Will it require more time ? Does
anyone know a breakdown of the process as posted about the core ? I plan to
redo my A/C as a complete job. Everything will be changed. Also any
pointers as to where to by the best parts? I was told something about
copper. Thank 2 all

Re: AHH DAMN IT TO HELL
Rick opined in news:fpz2b.952$bellglobal.com:
It's a collar-like thing that fits inside the supply side hose on either the
end on manifold or the heater depending on year - early/mid eighties it was
at heater end... has a hole about the diameter of a pencil eraser..
