Chevrolet: 99 malibu theft system light

my 99 malibu had started to act up. the theft system light would flash whe
i tried to start it and i would have to wait five minutes before i coul
try again but now the theft system light stays on alll the time nad stil
but less often i will have to wait to start the car because the ligh
willl flash. after waiting the five minutes the car starts fine. what i
the passlock system and what can i do about it?
