99' Ford Explorer - Check Engine Light
Hello, I have a 1999 Ford Explorer and the Check Engine Light won't go
off. What could be some problems causing this? Thanks!

Re: 99' Ford Explorer - Check Engine Light
The book which lists all the reasons for the CEL to turn on is about 700
pages thick...
If you can have someone scan the trouble codes (Autozone does it for free in
most places), post them here, along with any other symptoms, mileage, engine
size, etc.
Otherwise the only advice you can get is the one in your owner's manual:
check that the gas cap is tight.

You have an open sensor circuit in the feedback system.
Replace pin 4 in connector S-231-12 and you will be fine. Unless my
tele-kinetic code scanner isn't working right
Seriously though, just go to Autozone and get it scanned. there are a
zillion things that set the light!
good luck

Re: 99' Ford Explorer - Check Engine Light
I went to Autozone and had my 97 scanned. It said my EGR is bad. (My check
engine light is also on.)
My friend has a scanner as well, and it said the EGR is bad.
Is this enough to just go ahead and have the EGR replaced, or should I go to
a shop and have the engine scanned by one of their scanners?

No. You need to code to diagnose and repair. The code will start
with a "P" and be followed by four digits.
