Toyota: 99 Corolla Steering Noise

I don't know about your model but many Toyota's have a metal to metal
joint at the end of the steering column in the engine compartment. I
had creaking in an 81 Tercel and 2 83's and grease there solved it for
years. The dealer was clueless. You might try to follow the steering
column in your engine compartment to see if there is a ball joint with
no grease bulb around it. If you find it spray it with wd 30 as an
experiment to see if it solves the problem. It solved the problem for
several other Toyota owners (non-Tercels).
