    98 GC, engine dies

    I have 98 GC 5.9.

Engine will die at various speeds, can be under hard throttle or just idle.
If driving at 45 mph, it will restart on its own with momentum as though
nothing has happened. Sometimes it is a very brief stall(.5 sec - 2) but
today it died for at least 4 sec at about 45 mph, then restarted with the
    momentum at 25 mph.

    Any ideas?

    Ron

I'd check the coil and associated wiring or the sensor that drives
the coil. I had a GMC van with similar symptoms. Turned out to
be the little coil sensor that was around the distributor. Pulled
the distributor and put in a new coil sensor and it worked from
then on; no problem. Suspect a wiring problem of some sort
    in the ignition.

A friend had another van with same symptom. It finally went
totally out in the middle of Death Valley and it turned out
to be the wiring between the distributor and the coil.

These would be my first guesses,

Sounds like a pesky crankshaft position sensor

I spent a lot of $ to discover the coil was intermittant. Since I replaced
that it has never quit on me.
