remove the right front turn signal bulb. Look down into the socket
and you'll see a little metal tab on the side of the socket barrel.
Bend this tab inward.

The socket has become bad and had to be replaced....there was a TSB on
this and we were still under warranty.

Then possibly the problem is one of the lights that turn on when you
hit the light switch...maybe one of those bulbs has some corrosion at
the base or in the socket and that is causing the high resistance
(similar to the resistance if a bulb is burned out)...check all the
bulbs/sockets that light when the main light switch is turned on as
well as all four turn signal bulbs/sockets.

Also look at all the lights-related fuses...maybe one of them is
corroded or something.

If nothing turns up after all that, and if newer cars have a turn
signal flasher unit (I don't know if they do), get another unit --
because it's cheap enough -- put it in and see if your present flasher
unit is the problem.

I had the same problem with my 98 Camry.
I figured that the bulb was shot so I bought a new one at Walmart.
I removed the unit and discovered that the new bulb was not the
correct one. The new ones were clear, the original is yellow.
I replaced the unit and it worked fine.
Can't explain why.
I don't remember if I removed the original bulb. Might have.
