    97 GC a/c issue

My 97 GC started losing freon over the course of 3-4 weeks. Went to
Firestone (big mistake). They replaced expansion valve (there is a new
name for the part now). All freon leaked out in few days. Replaced gasket
at compressor. Freon leaked out in few days. Replaced hose. Freon leaked
out in few days. Cannot find anything with sniffer. *Think* it is
evaporator. They claim it takes 8 hours of labor and dash removal to get
    to that.

    Is the evaporator that buried?

Yes the evaporator is that buried...BUT... don't keep guessing, get
someone who knows what they are doing to put dye in the system and
look for the leak with a UV light. If it's in the evaporator you'll
see the dye coming out of your drip tube.

and they should be pressurizing the system with nitrogen up to about 300psi,
and THEN checking for the leak with the sniffer. 150 psi just isn't enough.
    been there, did that.....

Listen to this: the guy said the drip tube empties into the frame rail
and until it fills to a certain point, there is no drips! That is the
craziest thing I ever heard. I cannot believe the would have water
intentionally drip into a metal frame member.

There is a bulletin on cutting a better drain hole to allow the A/C to
drain before it starts smelling like putrid gym socks. Any Jeep dealer
service department should know about this one.
