97 900 clutch problem
Hey all,
Was wondering if anyone out there has any help / input / advise
on a clutch problem i'm now having.
Driving along and with out much warning the clutch pedal
stops working.
No noises, nothing. The pedal travels and returns without
any activity / so no gear changes. At least not easily.
The car is a 97 - 900 SE
There's no hydraulics in this system is there?
Any help appreciated
Thanks so much

I think that Saab switched to a hydraulic clutch in 1998, so yours should
be a cable clutch. Does the pedal offer the same resistance now that it
did before it stopped working?

I suspect the cable. When was it last replaced ? They are usually
good for 45-50K.
If you can stop the car when it happens and have someone push the
pedal while you study the mechanism you can probably detect the
lack of pull from the cable. OTOH, if you have not replaced the
cable in 50K miles you might was well do that job anyway. It will
eventually break and leave you stranded. Might as well start with
that replacement. If that does not solve it, then you can move
to the clutch itself. You are not wasting your money doing the
cable.
