Corvette: 96 for sale, maybe

96 for sale, maybe
I have a 96 lt4 with 17,500. I owned a 93 for 5 years. I loved the
way it looked but hated getting in and out of the regular bolstered
seats, the confined interior and the body flex. I sold it... then
realized how much I actually enjoyed it so I bought the 96. Hardtop
96 is so much better than the convertible I owned.
My friend has an 01 convertible that I can get off lease at a good
price. I have been offered 22,500 for my car.
I am tempted to sell my car and move up to the convertible. The c5
is a great car, it just does not seem as special.
Can I hear from people that moved from a c4 to a c5 and how they feel
about it. I don't know if this makes much of a difference, but I
hardly use the car it is more of a ..... toy/hobbie thing.
Thanks
Ralph

Re: 96 for sale, maybe
When the C5 came out the 92 I had was gone as soon as one could be built to
my order. I have never missed the 92 for any reason. I have had a little
regret about the 57,58,59,61, 63 (nah, POS), and the 64, still got the 72.

My personal ride is an '89 coupe which "piles up"
almost 4,000 miles per year. I'll keep this car for
another few years then switch to a C5 when a
nice one comes along for a reasonable price.
(Spare cash still goes toward tuition payments
--now it's for grandchildren.)
Three or four times a year I rent a C5 for a 3 day
business run to Vegas. ("Free" ride--the client
is paying the freight.) I find every aspect of the
C5 superior to my C4 save for seating (however
5 hours in any seat can make a 70 year-old L4
vertebrae say ouch!). The performance difference
I see is more marked than you will see in making
the change from the LT4 but I think you'll like the
more agile handling of the C5. The C5 is more of a
"production" car than the C4s (fewer things are
put together with bolts/screws and more stuff
is welded or bonded). I think there is less
creaking of the body on potholes. That 20 miles
of rough surface on I-15 south of Vegas is much
quieter in the C5 than in the C4.
A very subtle difference but one that gains
importance as the car ages is the more advanced
electronics and instrumentation in the C5. The
technology is better and the long term reliability
(and parts availability) should be light years ahead
of the C4.
Take that $ 22.5K and enjoy!

Yeah, right, that's a LT4 owner's dream. Numbers say it ain't so, may have
happened but shouldn't have.

Re: 96 for sale, maybe
The LT4 is a freakin animal. We brought one home from Carlisle this year
for my buddy's son. He just took it to the local track. Totally
inexperienced driver, completely stock car turned 13.4 @ 108.2. I have the
video to prove it.
