    96 altima electric problem

    Dear All,
    I have 96 Altima with 85 K.
I just got the Brake and Battery light on last night. Today on the way to
shop, my car died on the road. I notied that
the Battery terminal is broken which I am going to fix
Other than that what is the chance of Alternator failure?
What is the normal life of Altima? Is it worth spending around 600 $ for a
    new Alternator ?

    Thanks again.

I just had the same problem on a 96 altima - battery light and brake
light at the same time! I know the alternator is fried because it is
only generating 10V, but what is the deal with the brake light? Any
    suggestions? Thanks!

    Re: 96 altima electric problem

    Dear All,

I have replaced the alternator from Nissan dealer and have put a new
    battery few weeks back.
I also had dignostic test done at nissan few days back and they did not
    find any problem.
The car was running fine untill yesterday while driving,
there was power failure and car stopped on the road.
Follwing four lights came on at the same time -

    1)battery light(charge warning light)
    2)brake warning light
    3)malfunction indicator light
    4)engine oil pressure warning light

when i tried cranking after few minutes ,car started and all the lights
    went off.
At this point it just feels unreliable to drive without fixing the problem
as the car may break down again. would it be the alternator again? I just
had oil change done at pepboyes few days back. the car has 88 k
miles.would it be a better idea to go for 90 k service from nissan which
    costs $400.00

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

Sounds like a short in your in your wiring. Make sure there is not any
corrosion on your battery cables. They can look fine to the naked eye on
the outside, but the wires in the cable post itself could be corroded. I
    would start their.
