$9500 too low for my Cobra ?
as you may have read I am selling my 93 cobra.. teal/leather/moon roof
4660 of 4993.. interior is perfect.. exterior has a door ding, one hail ding
and some missing paint on front lower dam about 2" by 1/2" flake... 50,300
miles. It needs cat back exhaust as my muffs and pipes are rotted ..
cats are great. Clutch is great, so are brakes. Buyer says tires are
weather checked and are basically dangerous ??
for him to consider buying it at 9500 he wants me to have catback exhaust
replaced back with standard replacement exhaust and muffs.
what would you say ?

Dave I personally wouldn't do that for a buyer if I was selling your Cobra.
I would have paid $11.5k - $13k without blinking for it.

If it were me, I'd tell him to _______(insult of your choice)____
and get the *F* away from the car.
Tire kicking SOB. He would prolly end up suing you over something like a bug
splat on the windshield.
Furthermore, if they guy doesn't like the exhaust, he needs to buy a POS
minivan, not your baby.

Re: $9500 too low for my Cobra ?
4660 of 4993.... what is this, a Bateman print? Can't see your car so I
can't comment... on anything. He's looking for a Mustang, you're selling
one. He'll buy a Mustang.... not necessarily yours. This is a pile of
plastic and steel... what do you need to get for it? Are you upside down on
payments?
The big thing to keep in mind that this is a busines arrangement. You are
much further ahead to kep your emotions out of the loop and treat this like
any other business arrangement. DAMHIKT!!!!
Ask yourself why you are selling the car.... without the answer to that
question, everything else is conjecture.

Re: $9500 too low for my Cobra ?
David,
From the lack of use, your tires will indeed start to dryrot in
places, if you have the cracking in the sidewall at all, it's time to
replace them, and replace them quickly, for they could (most likely not)
blow out on the highway. As for the exhaust system, if it's rotting away
from underneath, that too should be replaced. Take the time to fix the
small items, then raise your price and start all over
again..............Sometimes by spending $500, you raise the value of
your car by $1,000, etc and so forth...Sometimes not, you have to be the
judge, because we do not see the car up close and personal......To me, I
would be replacing the parts, fixing the paint, then trying to sell the
car on Ebay....it's low mileage is a major plus, and you will get
bidders to more than cover your current repair expensives I would
think......................Just my two cents worth..............
Yours In Fords,
Bill S.

I agree.
Although, it depends upon how bad you need to unload it and how much $$ you
are willing to put in to it to sell it.
You could say to a potential buyer... You'll "Split the Difference" (in
what the repairs would cost) and go from there. That usually works for me.

Re: $9500 too low for my Cobra ?
Its a 1993 SVT Cobra - they all came numbered. This isn't like our
canuck variety cars which were all called 'cobra's during the late
eighties and early nineties. IIRC, Ford USA could not call their cars
cobra's without paying $$$'s to Carroll Shelby who owned the copyright.
There was no such copyright registered in Canada so Ford Canada sold
their GT's as 'cobra's.
The 93 SVT Cobra is a real neat car; 4 wheel disc's, GT40 engine, brake
cooler, oil cooler, etc..

All depends on what the purpose of the exercise is now doesn't it? If
it is to get the maximum value, then perhaps it isn't the best deal.
If it is to sell it because you are in dire need of the funds, then
that's a different story, now isn't it?
Regardless of what anyone here says, only you can make up your mind
based on your personal circumstances as to if this is a good deal or
not.
At $9500 I certainly would tell him to piss-off as far as having
anything fixed. Tell him that's on his dime and it's an unconditional
cash sales price. Anyone who tells you they are lowering the price
and wants you to fix something is playing a game. You can ask for a
lower selling price because of work you have to have done, or pay the
asking price after the work has been done. Not both.
A decent set of rubber and getting that exhaust fixed is going to put
you out about $1500. That brings the car up to $11,000 and I think
that would be a fair selling price if it was straight since high
retail is $10,572. Selling at high retail is fair for a possible
collectors item and of course the yea-ha factor.
You might want to get those problems fixed and ask the 11K. Usually
when I see stuff like that it makes me think that other routine
maintenance hasn't been performed and brings bigger doubts into my
mind.

You really willing to give that much for a car you have never laid
hands on? Or you just in the wishing mode?
