I need to get a wrench to hold the lower sliding pins in place as I
loosen the installation bolts on 1995 Avalon front brakes. What size
do I need? It looks like 18mm, but the jaws on my 18mm Craftsman are
so thick, I can't put them on the pins. Are there any wrenches with
thinner jaws? Is there an SST available?
Thanks.

Funny thing about 18mm... can't remember using one on any Toyota I have
serviced, or any other Japanese car I have worked on?
Other than 5 sided bolts on a VVT mechanism, and that "special" 12 point
socket for the head bolts, most all other fasteners seems pretty
conventional.

It takes a 17mm open end wrench. Some really cheap wrenches have
skinny enough jaws, otherwise you can do what I did and just buy a
halfway decent wrench and grind the jaws down.
Thanks, Steve. I figured I'd have to grind the wrench down, as nobody
seems to make one thin enough. !!

In my experience the Japanese use wrench sizes 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, and
larger. I have specialized in Asian vehicles since 1976 and don't
even own a 16 or 18 end wrench of socket....but who knows what
tomorrow will bring?????

heads
Seatbelt mounting bolts on my '82 Corolla are 18mm head.
18mm spanners came in both my set of cheap Chinese spanners, and Dad's Aigo
set.

I have an older Snap-On that everyone borrows for this, apparently, the
