Ford Explorer: 94 exhaust leak

94 exhaust leak
94 xlt, 130k
after replacing a broken egr pipe today, i noticed an exhaust leak
coming from the connection between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust
pipe. the connecting bolt for the egr pipe was *really* stuck on, and
it took a day's worth of wd-40 and wrenching, but after i got it off and
put the new one in, it leaks exhaust like hell where the manifold hits
the exhaust pipe. haven't tried simply tightening the bolts there (it's
still hot), but if that doesn't work will i have to replace the pipe
from the manifold to the cat or perhaps just a gasket/seal? i don't
think i need to replace the whole exh. manifold.
thanks,
john

Re: 94 exhaust leak
Once you have a leak, it can eat through the gasket pretty quickly. A new
one should solve it.

okay, that's about what i expected. but in the meantime, is it safe to
drive with an exhaust leak before the cat? i'm thinking that the o2
sensors are going to complain or something...

Re: 94 exhaust leak
The O2 sensor giving bad info is an issue, but I wouldn't expect it to be a
big problem. An significant exhaust leak that close to the engine could
potentially cause engine damage after some time.
