Toyota: 94 Corolla power window assembly is broken

94 Corolla power window assembly is broken
A friend of mine has a 94 Corolla and the passenger side window sort of
slides down into the door itself.
She took the car to the dealer, who said that it would cost $440 to fix
the power window assembly. That's a lot of money to invest in the car at
this point.
She's wondering if there is some way that we can disassemble the door
and sort of jam the window so that it's up all the time. (She doesn't
care if the window doesn't work.) Has anyone done anything like this?
If you have any information that might help us, please pass it along.
Many thanks.

Re: 94 Corolla power window assembly is broken
I had this problem on a Volvo in the shop but most power window assembly
are the same. Remove the interior door panel itself and I am not sure how
well Toyota has things covered up but normally there will be several access
hole at least. If you can clamp a vise grip on the track right below the
window while you hold it in the full up position; pull the vise grip
perpendicular and away from the track that will stop it from moving up and
down.
you also could try pushing a wooden wedge up between the frame and the
base of the window and put a small sheet screw through the metal you wedge
the windows against to hold the wedge in place.

Sounds like the window regulator has failed, these are cable operated
and jamb up. Is it power? If so, you can order a regulator wihtout a new
motor for much less $$$
