    94 Altima stalls frequently

I have had this problem for about two months now where my '94 Altima will
start-up drive for about 5 miles and the dashlights will come on and the
engine will not run. After coasting to the side of the road I will wait
for usually 4-5 min and it will start up again and drive fine usually for
at least another 20-30 miles before happening again. At times the wait
for the restart has taken more than a hour.

The shop I brought it to believed it was the fuel pump, therefore replaced
ther pump with the fuel filter and checked the fuel lines, however no luck.

Next they replaced the distributor and distributor cap because of heavy
corrosion. It stalled on the way home from the shop.

Next time, they adjusted the timing belt. Still no change in stalling
frequency or pattern of stalling tendencies.

The most recent diagnosis from Nissan is EVAP drain clogged and water
stains on ECM, need to start with replacing ECM @ $1162. The tech also
noted a valve cover that was leaking badly and soaking the ignition wires
that could be replaced @ $245. And a knock sensorcode in system @ $660.

I have read various forum posts from around the net describing the same
problem to a T with no solution. Please help i'm at my wits end.

    Thanks

    Re: 94 Altima stalls frequently

I have a 94 that stalls when I shift into neutral after driving for a while.
Turned out I have a single spark plug that's fouled and the effects cause an
incomplete combustion which in turn tricks the system into turning down the
fuel, which causes the engine to shutdown. In my case, we've determined
that the valve seal is leaking based on compression testing. I'm in the
    process of repairing the vehicle

What kind of tranny? How many miles? Have you checked your plugs?

With a car that old, it's probably best to get a new one if you're unable to
do the work yourself or get a friend to do it for you.

I'd unclog that drain first. You can get to that drain easily by taking
off the passenger front wheel. Run a piece of thick electrical wire
through it, being careful not to puncture the rubber. Then put some
denatured alcohol in a turkey baster and quirt it in clean it out.

Also put something ove the ECM to see if it still gets wet. The ECM is
under a cover by the front passenger left foot. Put a dry rag over it
to see if it still gets wet, checking it every day after you've been
    running the AC.

I suspect that, once you fix the drain problem, your proble will go
    away.

That's a lot of money to spend on a 04 Altima. I think you would be
better served buying a new car vice spending that kind of money on a
    13 year old Altima.
