Jeep: '91 Wrangler Fuel Fill Problem

'91 Wrangler Fuel Fill Problem
I've had this vehicle for nearly five years and fueling has always been a
chore. After the first five or six glallons of fuel, the rest of a fill-up
is agonizingly slow. I recently dropped the tank to change the fuel pump and
probably missed an opportunity. From what I understand (and saw) there is a
"sleeve" inside the neck of the tank. I've heard that this can be removed,
alowing for easier fueling, as well as more fuel capacity. If this is true,
can this be done without dropping the tank (WHAT A B..CH!) and will this
solve my problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

I know you can get that sleeve out without dropping the tank, it
involves a little wrangling, (no pun). You got to remove the filler cap
shroud (along with the license plate holder...) and the wheel well
thing. then you get the filler hose out of the way, and you can reach
in there and pull that black tube out. It'll give you another 5 Gallon
capacity in the tank, but I don't know about the filling speed.
A quick google found this:

But I know you can do it without dropping the tank. I'd suspect that
vent has somethign to do with your filling speed.

Re: '91 Wrangler Fuel Fill Problem
I have a 95 with the 20 gallon tank and have the same filling problem. It
really has a lot to do with the angle of the filler neck. I found that you
have to have the gas nozzle in a certain position to fill the tank. The
position varies with each gas station since they don't all use the same type
of nozzle.
