Nissan Maxima: 91 Maxima Electrical Problems

91 Maxima Electrical Problems
I just acquired a 91 Maixima SE, 5 speed, with 247k mikes. Runs great, but
has some electrical issues. I have replaced the alternator, but the test
at Advance Auto says check wiring. Still not charging adequately.
Nothing inside works until you crank the engine, (windows, door locks,
shoulder harness, inside lights, etc). I would imagine that this is at
least part of the issue. Is it possible that something has been re-wired
improperly, or is this due to a short or a relay or something?

Change the starter relay. I think it is the fourth one to the right on
the fues panel.

Did you find the solution to your problem... I have the same thing (I
believe). No automatic shoulder belts, radio will not hold programming,
etc. Fire up car... all is OK! What gives?

Re: 91 Maxima Electrical Problems
Well it looks like the problem wasn't exactly like yours but I did indeed
have a short which affected the Automatic Shoulder restraints, Clock,
Radio memory... radio worked other wise, Keypads on the doors and the
inside door lights.
As it turned out, the short was in a large connector, towards the top, on
the back of the fuse block… under the dash, not under the hood, it (the
connector) has two hefty wires. I could wiggle the connector and
everything would come back to life. After a slight modification to the
contacts all is well with the electricals.
I hope this helps someone
