later on my drive home my truck became hard to shift into all gears it would
shift but i really had to slam it ,also when stopping at a light 1st gear

    Re: 87 4 runner

On mine, I remember if I turned too sharply while in 4wd, the transmission
seemed to bind. The car felt sluggish like something was wrong with the
transmission. The was hard to shift gears even out of 4wd.

The only way I could get the car out of this binding was to put it back into
4wd and drive straight for a distance until the car drove and road more
easily. This is what I can remember. I don't have my '87 4Runner anymore.

    Hope this helps.

Sounds like your clutch isn't disengaging fully. Check your fluid level.
Also, you may have a problem with your master or slave cylinder (I
assume it has a hydraulic clutch like my '88 pickup).
