    74 Dart & Hedman Headers

Ok so i know i posted this almost a month ago but unfortunately I can't
afford the shorties so back to the drawingboard, and back to trying to get
the full size ones back in so this is what I wrote last time.
I bought some hedman headers for my 74 dart and was able to put the
passenger side in without issue but am unable to install the drivers side. I
can't seem to be able to get it passed the steering box. I've jacked the
engine up with a floor jack but it still didn't have enough clearence. Any
    Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Now I have since removed the passenger side and tried again to put the
driver side in to no success. It is currently on jackstands as high as my
poor little floor jack would lift it, which isn't very high. The only other
thing i can think of is tightening the pasenger side down at the engine
mount and then trying to jack it up.
Any of you guys live in the Portland area and wanna help me get her
goin? Hehehe just kidding, any ideas would be great, and I do mean any!!

I had responded to your original post, but you may have missed it.. I
had the same problem working on a '70 Cuda.. Ended up unbolting the
steering box and moving it out of the way to get the header in. I think
I had to disconnect the steering shaft and move that out of the way
    too.. Good Luck!

I have already called Hedman, they said that the 78050 was the right ones
for my car, even had me measure them to make sure they where right, they also
said they might be able to replace them with the shorty ones 78500 but I
voided the warranty when I put the passenger side in before hand. The
instructions say to install them from the bottom. Gonna try again in about
    an hour or so.

Re: 74 Dart & Hedman Headers

Hey Guys!! I am so extremely happy you would not believe. I figured that
P.I.T.A. out and finally got the driver side in. It's actually kinda funny
since I tried the same thing about a month ago and it wouldn't go last time.
Of course now the warranty is most deffinately void, but I really don't care
so here is what I did. I pulled the steering box, put the headers in most of
the way and the beat the stearing box back in so that I could bolt it back
in to place. I did dent the header a little but not to noticably. So now i
have both sides in place passenger side bolts are in driver side is still
hanging cause I still have to put the starter in and the steering back
together, could other minor things like oil filter, coolant, plugs and
wires, But the hard part is over...When i get her all buttoned up I will
post some pix for you guys... I just wanted to say thanks to everyone out
there that helped, it is greatly appreciated.

    You are trying from underneath?
I used to like to set header in and drop motor and trans in?? I know
your not going to like that.
You got the right headers for power steering or non power?
    (78050 / 78056)
    or
    tight
    (78500 / 78506)

    http://www.hedman.com/pages/hedmanmain.html

scroll dow to bottom of page extreme left and click instruction sheets!
    Scroll down to 78050

You may have to download the latest adobe reader!
I think it gives info on transmission linkage issues too!

Course they also have tech e-mail if you can't get the instructions to work!

It's not too often you get headers in without some denting!
    Just the way it is!
