Ford Mustang: '67 as only transportation

Re: '67 as only transportation
Sure, why not.....................Once you go through a new purchase
initially, you should have no real problems...............unless of
course your buying a sub $3,000 car which has been through 20+ owners,
in which case your on your own...................I suggest a triple "A"
card.................

I had one of those. 15 years later and I still regret selling it. It would
have run until the doors fell off.

yeah true. They're just not real stylish and have a bad habit of
overheating, which i'm sure is solvable without much work
Remember Dennis Weaver in the ABC tv-movie DUEL? He was running from a
psychotic trucker in a "new" '73 Valiant that could barely do 70 with
the pedal floored.
Talk about a pathetic excuse for a car...

Re: '67 as only transportation
Had a 67 for 10 years. GREAT car! Loved it. Even with the rust on the car,
people used to stop and talk about it... "Yip, I remember when these first
came out, I was 12 years old, and my dad bought one..."
But seriously, it broke down quite a bit compared to the new ones, but they
are cheap and easy to fix! Which is a major plus. Insurance is cheap too.
And girls love them. What's not to love man?!??!

I've always liked those Cougars too, though I rarely see them. Did
they put the same engines in those as the Mustangs? I know the basic
frame looks lamost exactly the same.

Jason they can be very reliabable if they were and are well maintained. If
the car is in good condition to start with , the main things to watch or
really upgrade for a daily driver is the cooling system. Make sure the
radiator is in excellent condition, The hoses and above all the heater cores
and hoses. The heater core and hoses and cause you alot of greif. Not
expensive to replace just make sure there in good condition.

they're identical in the running train. The difference is in the
interior dash and the headlights, mainly, along with a slightly
different body. But their similarity to the mustang makes them pretty
good so far as obtaining parts goes.
Down side: they're overly popular with "street types". I've had gang
banger types lock their wheels up and come to a stop as I drove by,
making me very nervous and causing me to reconsider just how nice i'd
like to make the car look. Too much attention is not necessarily a good
thing...

Re: '67 as only transportation
I have a 66 coupe that is my daily driver and my only car. It has needed
work but has only left me stranded once in the two years I have owned it.
Even then I was able to drive it to the parts house for a new belt.
Unfortunaltey it was on I-5 in Tacoma Washington rush hours and dark! Was
about 30 minutes to the next exit but she did it with no probs. Now if I can
get people to quit hitting my car I wouldn't be afraid to drive it when I
do!

I have to say they did a damn good job. It really LOOKED like a car that
couldn't top 70 or 80 with the wind at its back
wow--not bad! But how long can it handle that speed before overheating?
lol. Was that the point where the 302 got down to 125 horsepower? I hear
ya, tho.
I won't say it too loud, but at one time i lusted after a '72 turqoise
