Audi: Is 4Matic a rebadged quattro?

I thought 4matic was the Merc version like VW's 4motion? its a "on demand"

Well.. 4Matic is Mercedes, so no, its not rebadged Quattro. And I don't
think it matters whether its in West Virginia or not.

Depends on what you mean by "quattro." 4Motion is what VW calls it's
AWD system on VW-badged autos. The Haldex-based system in the TT
quattro is the same system in the VW R32 (called 4Motion by VW). The
TORSEN system in the A4 quattro is the same system in the current
Passat 4Motion.

Torsen system in 5sp and at audis is the same. Correct?

Syncro was what VW was calling their AWD cars back in the 80's. There
werent too many of them.. I dont even remeber what they offered other
than a VW bus w/ syncro, and a syncro Quantum.

VW's AWD labelling from the 1980s. IIRC, it was different from TORSEN
- viscous couplings and such. Somewhere there's a good description,
but I can't remember where. Google's got the answer, if you care
enough to look it up.
