Pontiac: 3800 Series II Intake Repair Kit!
-
Re: 3800 Series II Intake Repair Kit!
Would it be worth installing this repair kit on an engine with 40,000 miles
as a preventive measure against upper intake failure possibly in the future,
or just wait it out. I've heard the newer 3800's (L36) have an improved
upper intake with regards to the egr stove pipe.

Sorry about that Ian.....I was just trying to do 2 things in one post.
Yeah, we will not use this kit at our Dealership either because we can't
warranty a non-GM part.
I've sold quite a few of these kits now & all customers to date are happy
with them & I've had no complaints regarding failures of this part to date
too.

future,
Yes & no.....
It can be used as a preventive measure, but I still perfer GM parts myself
(Not like I don't like to get a sale though - LOL). Therefore I would
recommend you stay with the original gaskets until such time they fail (if
they fail that is). I haven't seen too many cars that are built after 99
that have this problem mind you......The ones I have seen have been because
of multiple other issues as well, such as overheating, faulty thermostat &
the like.

Didn't mean to sound so mean with the spam remark, normally people jump in
and plug their product and never look back.
As for the 3400 gaskets, I'm thinking of those copper gaskets, I was told
that my motor has the newer reinforced gaskets since it was a late build
2003, but whenever it does go I'm gonna want to get something better then
the stock gaskets.
