Ferrari: The 308 is out for summer!

The 308 is out for summer!

Yeah I waited a while but it's finally out of storage. It's running great
and a real joy to drive as always, but i've got a few questions about some
    issues. Car is a 77 308 GTB.

    1) When I pull up to a stop light, the idle likes to stick at 1500-2000rpm.
If I very quickly blip the throttle, I can get it to drop down to 1000rpm.

    2) Oil pressure. It seems like, starting last summer, it was a little lower
than it used to be. At speed, it stays at a steady 85lbs but at idle it
drops down to that first white hash, between 0 and 85. I seem to remember
it used to be a lot higher, like 85lbs at idle and between 85lbs and 170lbs
at speed. It's been about two or three summers since the oil was changed,
but only about 1500 miles, if that could be an issue.

    3) The Carbs. I had them tuned last summer, but was told they need a
rebuild soon and might not hold their tune. Ran great for a few months, but
when I put the car away last fall the carbs had obviously lost their tune as
the engine had that rough sound, you guys with pre-1980 308s probably know
what I mean. When I drove it home last week, and so far, the car runs
perfect, and doesn't sound out of tune at all. The strange thing is, I
didn't touch the carbs, and it sounds back in tune.

That's about all, and should give me some stuff to work on Thanks for
    your help.

You might want to adjust your fast idle.

Change the friggin' oil! (and all the other fluids as well). Your
sending unit could be going off. I had the same issue.

    Hey, if it's not broke....

Enjoy the car and that special "Carb Car" experience that those
"Injected Capri pant wearing" types will never understand.

....at which point I'd have to give up on the 'torque spread' argument.

....and check you don't have either a sticky throttle cable/mechanism or a
    sticky gas pedal

Indeed, change the oil and the filter......and ALL the other fluids come to
think of it. Oil goes nasty over time - build up of acids or some such
thing - google for it & you'll find information as to why you need to change
it at least once a year regardless of mileage. Three years is way too long.

The oil pressure shouldn't go above 80-90lbs even when cold. When the car is
hot & idling it wouldn't be unusual to see very little oil pressure at all.

Once you are happy that the carbs are "about right" you might also consider
an "Italian tune up". Basically, get the thing nice & warm & then drive it
    in 3rd gear for 3-4 minutes at between 6 & 7,000 rpm - it will de-coke the
valves & clean everything out a treat. Also maybe run a bottle of
carburettor cleaner through with a full fresh tank of gas. Gas "weathers"
these days & can leave some nasty deposits around the place if you leave it
    too long.

Having said that, how long has the car been "in storeage" without being run?
If its more than a few months you might consider a cambelt change first as
well. Belts need to be changed with age as much as they do for mileage
reasons & the longer they sit in one position the less good it does them

    Tell, Tell......

Calm down! Calm down, we won it fair & square geezer!

I remember the first time I heard about this technique, I was a little

Soon my friend, soon. When i have the car in my possession I'll tell
    the story!
