    2007 Prius Warrantee opinion?

Well I just bought a 2007 NL and I'm faced with the decision on the extended
    warrantee(Platinum?).
The factory warrantee seems pretty good and comprehensive and while I
generally reject extended warrantee's as nearly pure profit, I do tend to
    buy extended drivetrain/systems warrantee.

SO, in the face of a generous standard warrantee and a $1625 fee, what have
you done? Yes I know it's a personal opinion but still I'd appreciate any
    opinion.

    thanks.

PS - Can't wait to pick up my new hybrid! (and I as so amazed at the deal
    they gave me - over 10% off MSRP - I don't know what's typical now but I
know they were getting sticker in my area just last fall)

PPS should I buy Lojack or the GPS alternative (forgto the name, sounds
better'n Lojack)? does anyone steal these 'beauties'?

Well, first of all, if you check priuschat.com you'll find a source for
it for $995 from a reliable dealer. Secondly, you don't have to buy it
right away; you have until your regular warranty runs out--that's three
    years.

Third, I believe that it's not necessary, but each of us has to make his
or her own choice on the matter.

Waste of money in my opinion.

Don't believe in them. We figure by the time the new car warranty
runs out most of the bugs and kinks have shown up and are already
covered. Extended warranties are a waste of money.

If going for an extended warranty, I'd suggest the Toyota Extra Care
Platinum Plan. You can buy it any time before the end of your basic 3
year/36,000 mile plan, and from any dealer. (So, you have time to
shop around and get a better price!) The longest 7 year/100,000 mile/
$0 deductible version can be had from several Prius-friendly dealers
for $995 (and shorter terms for even less), so...

I know that I have to update this document with some new dealers (and
updated links), and info about the now-offered lower-than-Platinum
plans, but... Much info about the Toyota extended warranties and some
suggested discount dealers can be found here:

The only reported stolen Prius that I've heard of were where the theif
stole the keyfob... (The only other method is by a tow truck, and I
think I've heard of one stolen in this method as well.) With the
standard engine immobilizer (and no way to hot-wire it), it is very
    difficult to steal a Prius.

Your NL package includes the anti-theft alarm (horn beeps/lights blink
if someone opens a door or the hood while armed).

However, if your auto insurance company offers a large enough discount
for the added anti-theft device (vehicle transponder), then it may be
    worth it to you. <shrug>

Usually, I reject extended warranties on principle. I figure they know
their product and its failure modes better than I and have calculated the
    statistics in their favor.

However, when we bought our 2007 Prius, we bought the 7-year 75Kmile
extended warranty. There are just too many computers and funky systems, that
I do not expect to be able to diagnose or fix myself.

Our dealer offered us an extended warranty which will refund the $1500 at
the end of the 7 years if we never use it. So, if we have a little cheap
problem, we'll just pay to fix it. But if we have an expensive problem, like
a failed computer, we'll use the warranty.

This seems a reasonable answer. The interest on the $1.5k is their
    profit, if it never used.

Their other profit is all the repairs you make yourself, hoping to get the
$1500 back at the end. Then three years in you have to make the expensive
repair and you don't get your money back anyway. It's a bad deal. Better
off getting the plain 7/100K plan for $995. Note that I am starting year
six of our seven year plan and have never had to use it (or the basic 3
    year/36K one) for anything.
