2005 GS 300 - Dealer invoice price?
I'm thinking of buying the 2005 GS 300. A few questions:
a) a fleet manager at Lexus says he'll sell it at $750 above dealer invoice.
How do I find out what the "dealer invoice" for a standard 2005 GS 300
really is? I don't want them to give me a fake dealer invoice and I'll get
ripped off.
b) Is it worth it to purchase the Navigation System?
c) Do you suggest to upgrade to the 10-speaker sound system?
d) Edmunds.com suggests that I shouldn't buy this model for the following:
What Edmunds.com Says:
A capable and comfortable car, but considering that the IS 300 is sportier and
the ES 330 nearly as luxurious for less, the GS 300 doesn't make much sense.

You might be sorry only a few months later, when the new GS comes out in the
Spring (Oct 04 Motor Trend). It's beautifully styled and will be worth the
wait, in my opinion, anyway.
The GS's they're selling until then, while new, are just to fill the time
gap for the sales people until the new ones come out...........

Any links to the new GS?
I've looked at lexus.com and at what they term their 2005 model, but
it looks almost the same as the current model. Maybe I'm missing
something?!?!

Re: 2005 GS 300 - Dealer invoice price?
On top of what edmund says:
- Based on the new Crown platform and AFAIK will ship with the new direct
injection 3L V6 in Japan. Due to US fuel quality, non D4 engines will be
used in USA.
- Should have all the keyless start stuff from Prius
- AWD on select models
- AFAIK will be the entry of 'lexus' into the JP local market, so where will
the turbo models go?

The new GS prototype was at the NY auto show in the Spring. It was
absolutely beautiful. It is said that it was, essentially, "the 2006 GS
that will be offered in the Spring of 2005". The current issue of Motor
Trend (October 2004) confirms that.
I'd never want to be the guy that buys a Lexus in the 5th year of a
Five-Year design cycle, - especially when the 5th year of the model won't
even be a full year. Lexus usually uses a 5-year design cycle. I'm not sure
if the current GS design is in it's 5th year, maybe someone can verify that.
At any rate, new cars depreciate quickly enough in normal model years - no
need to buy one that's only going to be "half-a-model-year" long and have
"5-year old styling" the minute the new one is introduced 6 months later.

And, the new one will have AWD available as an option. I am
definitely going to trade my A4 Quattro in for the GS300 AWD.

That's correct. It will have AWD...
Also:
1. It will have a 2" longer wheelbase (more agressive look with shorter
overhangs)
2. In the GS330, a V-6 replaces the inline-six
3. A six-speed sequential automatic will be offered (Hopefully they did a
better job engineering this than they did when they introduced the new
5-speed on the '02 ES300)

Thanks. I can't decide whether I like it or not. Looks slightly out of
balance alongside the current GS300. Maybe I need to see it in the
flesh.

Excellent. I find the 3litre straight six a little unresponsive
alongside my old Audi 2.8 V6. Maybe that'll iron out the torque
problem. I love my 300, but I miss the smooth power delivery of the V.
I hope they've improved the steering ratio too. The current GS300 is
almost like piloting a sailing boat around fast corners, as
unresponsive as hell.
