    Thanks!
I guess they didn't want to spend extra $$$ for a larger inverter. I guess
a small fridge is out along with a shopvac maybe a fan though!

They probably intended it for a TV/DVD/X-Box/GameCube set up. There are
small travel refrigerators which would not over load the system.

300 is enough for a small tv and other accessories. Do not try to
drive power tools with it though.

You can only get so many watts with a 12 v base. There is a push in
the auto industry to change that though. Some newer cars will have
36v systems in them. Since we run so many accessories now, the higher
voltage is supposed to be more efficient and allow to run higher
wattage appliances. Power steering in the future will be electric
    instead of hydralic.

That, or a laptop computer & other small office equipment for "Road
Warriors" - some people won't buy the 12V to Laptop adapters.

If you need a refrigerator, get the Koolatron style cooler with a
    thermoelectric Peltier-effect cooler module - 12VDC 4 Amps in, and a
45 degree F drop inside. (Or set it to warm and put your can of Chili
inside to heat up for lunch.)

No need for an inverter, but since they have a fixed maximum
temperature differential you have to park in the shade so you don't
overload it. And don't leave it plugged in with the motor off more
than an hour or two, it's enough to kill the battery.

Power= Vtimes I where V is volts and I is current. If the power output is
300 W the max current is 2.6A where A is amps.

Asmall fridge will pull roughly 2.5A but you need to check on its rear plate
for power consumed. A large fan is about 50W, a power tool will need to be
checked as only the smaller 250W appliances would run and thats not in a
stalled condition where they will pull a lot more current than their nominal
    value of power.

Scot is right on, in addition to voltages going 3 times what we have
now, also means the wires can shrink 1/3rd of what we have now also.

Forget about a refrigerator, vacuum or any other motorized item that
has a high start torque draw - and hence a big current surge to get
started. You need a 1000W inverter for a bar-size refrigerator, so it
can handle the start surge without burning out.

    I have run a small 120V drill press off a 350W stand-alone inverter,
but I had to take very slow and gentle cuts and leave the belt very
loose so it would slip under load, rather than stall the motor and
    overload the inverter.

They have the 1000W inverters at Costco now, so that's next on my
    "Mongo Want!" list. ;-p

Yeah, I forgot starting current for loaded or larger electrical motors.
Makes that short- duration o/load current handling capability parameter
    important.!

Just in case you don't know, you only get the 115V outlets with DVD
packages. The outlets are not standard.
