2004 Nissan Quest -- Service Engine Soon light always comes on.

Is anyone aware of issues w/ the Service Eng. Soon light on these vehicles?

    Thanks,
    Doug

Not a whole lot of problems so far, other than the radio turning off
and locking up for no reason. That and a wacko tire pressure monitor
that seems to have a mind of its own.

However, if you have a service engine light on, take it back to your
dealer and have them pull the code. It may be nothing more than a
loose gas cap, but it might be something serious.

Hmm, my radio cut off once, and they had to replace one of my tire press.
    monitors as well.

Regarding the Serv. Eng Soon light. I've had it in twice, they pulled the
code - small evap leak - is one of the codes. They told me I was not
tightening the cap and that I was also filling the tank beyond the 1st click
(which I was). I tighten the cap 5-6 turns and stop filling the tank at the
first shut off and I even have changed gas (EXXON, AMOCO, etc...) still the
light comes on w/ the same codes. I talked them into, at a minimum, getting
me a new gas cap since that would appear to be the cheapest and one of the
easiest things to test/replace. Guess what, the gas caps are on back order.
My service advisor thinks there could be an issue w/ the gas caps being used
on the Nissans, but he's not sure. Him being not sure doesn't impress me
too much, I would think he would know about these things if the caps where
    in fact problematic.

Welcome to the world of "just in time" parts distribution. Nissan is
having a hell of a hard time keeping dealers stocked with parts.
Especially parts for new production vehicles (like the Quest, Titan,
Armada and Maxima). I'm not shocked to hear your dealer doesn't have
a gas cap in stock. Just be glad you didn't break your windshield
(those are backordered into the next century).

Since your Service engine light has come on 3 or 4 times and you know
what the problem is, just drive it until the cap can be replaced.
