Jeep: 2001GCSteering Lock

Got my GC fixed (they say) key now works but column doesn't lock unless you
turn the wheel 1/4 turn min to where it will lock. Once locked, the key
won't work unless you turn the wheel some more to take the pressure off the
key.
Anyone else have the same issue?
Getting mixed stories from local dealers.
What good is steering lock if you have to turn the wheel when power is off
to lock it.
My 93 would lock anywhere
