There should be 2-3 phillips screws holding in the trim cover for the
cluster. After you have the trim off, there are four phillips screws
    holding in the cluster.

It's pretty easy. The mileage may be able to be burned in, but you'll have
to find a speedo repair shop to do it and you'll need the old speedo as
actual evidence of what the mileage was.

BURNED IN? This odo is of the mechanical nature, it's not digital

just wondering if anyone had any experience with replacement of the
spedo/odo assemblies and if it is a difficult task?

    Doron,

I replaced a bad tach, and it's very simple. The clear plastic cover
and the black plastic base both have push tabs that are used to assemble
them. You should have a helper, and push down on each of the tabs for
the black plastic base cover at the same time and pull it off. There
are a few screws on the rear (two for the tach) that you unscrew and the
unit lifts out the front of the case.

I thought 2001 had the digital odometers. I'm not sure anyone will touch a
used one to set it. The ones from the factory come set to 1 mile (I guess
    they test them).

    2001 Sonata Speedometer

I know I posted this question a while back but I was just wondering if
    anyone has any new insight.

I have to replace the speedometer assembly and I need to get a new odometer
as well. I would like to do the repair myself as my car is out of warranty
(in Canada it's only 3 years).

Anyone have any clue how to remove the assembly, reinstall it and click the
new odometer to it's current reading?

BTW it is the mechanical type odometer.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    D

    ===================
    D,

The removal of the speedometer assembly is simple. There are three phillips
screws in the underside of the black trim piece in front of the plastic face
of the assembly. Unscrew those screws and gently pull the trim piece from
the top, working it out of the bottom push-in tabs. After the trim is
removed you will see four phillips screws around the perimeter of the
assembly. Remove these (use a magnetic screwdriver so you don't drop one
into the innards of the dash) and move the steering column to the bottom of
its adjustment range. Pull the assembly forward to disengage it, and then
angle the assembly out of the right side of the opening, tilting it as
needed to clear. There are no wiring terminals, etc. -- the assembly mates
to plugs fixed to the back of the opening.

As to resetting the odometer, that can't be done without leaving evidence of
tampering and it is illegal in the U.S. I don't know what Canada's laws are
    on this.

    Good luck,
    Harry
