    2001 dodge caravan

I have an aggravating problem with the windshield wipers on this car, which
I bought new. From the start, the wipers frequently hit in the middle of
the windshield, and are bent. The dealer has replaced each arm 3 times,
the wiper/blade 4 times, and I am waiting for the 5th replacement of the
arms. The wiper motor seems fine, but the arm connection to the post slip
very easily, and then strip. I am not kidding when I tell you that I can
barely use the wipers, as if I run them at high speed, or for prolonged
periods at regular speed, this problem occurs. The dealer is implying that
I am causing this problem, they say that I am not clearing the windshield
properly of ice before use. I have pointed out that this also occurs in
the summer in a heavy rain. I position the wipers off the windshield if
the car is outside in the snow, and heat the car totally and clear
ice/snow before use. The dealer does not want to repair at their cost (
they have up to this point) .. has anyone else heard of this problem, or
have suggestion how to proceed? My point to the dealer is that I have
never been able to properly use the wipers since I have had the car.

Assuming the van is out of warranty the dealer does not have to fix it. If
you have a max care service contract or still within the warranty period of
    3/36 they should.
Those wipers are made to slip if there is snow or ice built up on the
windshied to prevent damaging the wiper motor/arms. If it has happened
several times already then what may have happened is the pivots got
stripped and wont lock the arms to them. If this is the case you would need
    new pivots/wiper assembly.
Im not saying you do not clean the snow and ice off but I see this alot from
our customers and not just the vans, we tell them to clean the ice and snow
off first. Make sure to turn your wipers off after parking your vehicle in
the winter, if you leave them on and start the car up the next day with snow
or ice on the windshield they will turn on when vehicle starts and cause
    damage.

Thanks for your reply, however I already do all the things you suggest. The
dealer says the pivot/wiper assembly is not a problem. They also say that
no onther customer has had this problem. The car was purchased in October
of 2001. The problem started in April 2002, in a hard rain, not in snow
or ice. Since then, has not been right, summer or winter. I do all the
things you suggest, but again can not use the wipers as a driver should be
able to. We have contacted Chrysler by writing, copy to our attorney, with
a reply only by phone. My husband wants to contact the NYS attorney
general, and federal safety board, this is how unhappy we are about the
problem. Wipers should function on full speed in a driving rain. At this
point, I can not confidently use the wipers for safety reasons.

I agree with you 100%. And the pivot/wiper assembly has to be the problem or
it wouldnt do this in the rain!!! Have you taken it to another dealer?,. Do
you have a service contract or is in still in warranty?? and just curious,
    how many miles on it?

The warranty is expired. There are 55,000 miles on the van. Even under
when warranty or now, the dealer says this is not a pivot/assembly
problem. Every previous repair was under the warranty coverage, but not
now. They aggreed to fix it once again, but tell me that after this it is
my problem. I should take it to another dealer for their opinion. Thanks.

    In article <3d8079856fdba1629ff4f934bc578aa4

    I agree with maxpower.

After 5? times, I would be going to another dealer.
