    2001 'bu cruise control

My cruise control shuts off when it shouldn't.
I repeatedly have to push 'RESUME' to get it to
    come back on.
I don't think it is the brake pedal sensor.
It will sometimes go off on bumps in the road,
but most of the time, it just goes off and there
    is no apparent stimulus.

    2 choices,

    1) live with it or
    2) take it to a mechanic who can diagnose it.

There are too many things to check, and unless you know alot about it, you
are not doing yourself any good.

Thanks for the opinions. I have been living with it for 2 years. It isn't
important enough to take it to a mechanic or dealer. What I was hoping, was
that someone who knows older Malibus would have some insight in what may be
    a common problem.
Like the intake manifold gasket coolant leak problem, or the steering
    problem in newer 'bu's.

My dad has a 92 lesabre that for the longest time did it.

For some reason, it doesnt do it anymore. Dont know what caused it. Dont
    know what fixed it.

My 97 Olds Cutlass Supreme (similar to a Malibu) had sporadic and then no
cruise....via a newsgroup I heard that the center brake light could be the
culprit....it was.... replaced the bulbs and it now works fine.....The
circuit is separate from the normal brake lights and the cruise is wired
into the center light and not the rear lights.....Rod

Thanks. I would never have guessed the high mount brake light would be
related to the cruise. I believe there's some funny, patched, wiring on my
    center light.

I checked out my high mount brake bulbs and wiring. They seem fine, the
hard part was getting to the rear after pushing the brake pedal before the
light went out. One bulb is a little dim.

Bummer...bulbs being the easiest cruise repair ever.....Mine worked fine
with either or both bulbs......When alone if I need to check bulbs/lights I
either back up near a garage door or lean a piece of plywood on a garbage
can directly behind the light in question..for the center light I'd probably
lean a board over the center(outside) of the rear window...Good luck Rod
