2000 Grand Prix GT
I have 96K and got a service engine soon light and everything seems to be
running fine. Two days ago I had a low coolant light blink come on and go
out but that has been it. How can I get the codes and what do they mean? I
would like to have an idea of what the engine management systems has stored
in the computer.
Thanks

Re: 2000 Grand Prix GT
OBD II requires a scan tool. Good ones are very expensive. Cheesedick
scanners can be obtained from Checker, Advance, whoever, for maybe $150.
Most cheap scanners will identify global codes; manufacturer codes must
be looked up in service literature. Good scanners will identify global
and mfgr codes and supply troubleshooting tips.
If a coolant indicator light illuminated, even briefly, the first order
of business is to verify proper coolant level. If the coolant level is
low, the ECT may not supply temp data to the PCM, and the MIL will
illuminate. This is, of course, a possibility, and should not be
construed as a diagnosis.

Re: 2000 Grand Prix GT
If you already have a pda you can get a OBDII reader like at
www.auterraweb.com for about 200 bucks.
It will give you codes for everything but abs and airbags. It wont
interact with the car but it will give you readings. It also has
definitions for a majority of P codes. For the rest of the codes I find
the book by Peter David "obd II Diagnostic Fault codes" to be handy.

Have you check your coolant? Not just the overflow bottle!

I made an appointment at the dealer. Hopefully it is very minor. Car runs
great.

Such as a Palm Pilot? I would assume it includes the necessary cables?
