1st year Z06
What was the 1st year of the Z06? A chevy dealer here in Fl says he has a
1999 " concept car the foreunner to the Z06 yet he ststes u is a Z06
Before I chek it out would sure like to know, also would like to know after
looking at the car while the dealer was close the low price of under 24k.
It had 57k miles on here and body did look good with new rubber.
Was tere a concept Z06?

No, it was just a Fixed Roof Coupe (FRC).
http://www.idavette.net/facts/99.htm Just Dealer flimflam. The Z06 was not
offered until 2001, with a HP increase to 385.

1963. It was an option for the split window coupe. Actually, late in 63
they made it an option for the convertible too, but not a single person
ever picked the Z06 option for the 63 convertible.
No. First they had something called the Fixed Roof Coupe (FRC). That was
the hardtop, but with the LS1 motor just like the coupe or convertible.
Then they did a bunch of changes and made a Z06. I think 2000 (but am not
sure) was the first time they did that. It got an LS6 motor instead of LS1
(different heads is the big difference), the run flats were replaced with
performance tires, the front facia where the fog lites are became a
functional cold-air induction system, the side got black "snorkely looking"
vents that blew air onto the brake pads in the rear, and they did some
other stuff to lighten it up (titanium exhaust, etc.).

The car a 99 for repputable chevy dealer. What should I look for if anything
is bad or could go bad with this 99,
They gave me 33 for my 66 and allthough I hate to get rid of it the 99 seems
alot more comforatabel and rides super.
Oh its 345hp if not mistaken. 1 More question what it that button in the
middle of the console? And what should i look for on this vette. It does have
run flats.
Dave.

The 99 has a rattle in the tranny in 1st, a locking steering column, and a
few other tech bulletins. IIRC, Corvette Action Center Knowledgebase and
C5 Registry both posted all of the tech bulletins for the 99. Check:
http://corvetteactioncenter.com/kb/
http://www.c5registry.com/
My 98 had brake rotor problems, seat bolster wear problems, ignition module
failure, water sensor failure, rusted trunk rivets, tranny noise, wind
noise, and a few other annoying small things. I think it saw the shop
about 5 or 6 times, but was solid once the bugs were all worked out.
It is 345. There was no Z06 / LS6 in 1999.
Active handling on/off. If you hold it for 5 seconds it flips to
competition mode.
1) The options you like.
2) Check the VIN to make sure it had an easy life.
Lose the runflats. Get the Goodyear F1-GS-D3:

Depending on it's build date (serial number) there were some recalls/TSB's
on them. The dealer can run a computer check to see what was fixed or
ignored. Steering column lock, passenger seat belt, fuel gage/sender/pump
problems, and last and by far not the least is OIL CONSUMPTION. Stand strong
on this, don't let the new car blind you to not getting all of these
resolved before you sign on the dotted line. There are lots of C5's out
there to chose from, pick one and drag it under his nose. If he don't come
around now think what it will be like when it's yours.

Depends on what you work out with the dealer, I would imagine. Tech
Bulletins are in effect for the length of the warranty, IIRC. Good news
though - most dealers will give you a GMPP for free or at cost for that
car. Get the 7 year, 100K GMPP with $100 deductible. It's not that
expensive. That will get you through about 2006 or so. Search for the
price online before talking to the dealer about it. Lots of places online
will sell GMPP's at invoice or $25 over invoice.
6 speed means you will probably have the TSB for sounds of "marbles in a
can" in 1st gear. The fix was some linkage adjustment. Other than that,
your car had the locking steering column, oil consumption in cylinder 7,
and some other stuff. Get that done before you buy it.
