    1998 mailbu 4cyl 2.4L

hi i have a few question about my 1998 chev malibu 4cyl 2.4L it has
230,000kms i just bought it a month ago

    1. what would normal gas mileage be for this car? i get about 350-370kms
for a full tank. thats highway/city driving. Is this normal milage for a
    malibu with this many kms?

    2. the car has a bad shake in the steering wheel when i get up past
130kms/hr and start braking, then if i speed up more the shake will
    slowly go away

i googled these questions but i never got no real good answers so i was
    hoping someone here could help

    thanks

    chris

I don't know about your milages, not familiar with
kilometer figures (must do .62 * 100 km to get miles, and instead of
miles/gal, km uses litres per 100 km, etc.)
But, about the shimmy with braking, that sounds like bad front rotors, much
more noticible at speed (100 km/hr or above.)
I have 6 cylinder engine, which gets about 29 miles per gallon highway and
as low as 17 mpg city. I have gotten a measured 32 mpg highway, may have
been not a reproducable result, I usually get about 29 mpg.

    Might be time for a tune-up. My '98 with 290,000 kms, 3.1L V6 gets 34-35
MPG hwy, don't know about city. I recommend spark plugs, plug wires, PCV
valve, air filter and with that many miles, you should check the fuel filter
too. Mine was nearly clogged when I changed it 10,000 kms ago.

The shaking in the front end is probably from bad rotors. These cars are
notorious for bad front brakes. Check the sliders on the calipers while you
have the brakes apart, they may need to be cleaned and regreased.

    Good luck,
    Sharky
