1998 4.0 V-6 Intake Plenum Crack HELP
I was told by the local ford service center that the reason my check engine light is on and the reason why it wants to die whenever it idles is because of a cracked upper intake plenum. Im not to mechanically inclinded, but where is it at? can it be fixed by using plastic sealer or some other crack repair sealant? Ford wants over $600+ to fix this, i cant afford that, can anybody offer a young lad some advice? thanks

I haven't seen anything that will handle the thermocycling that the intake
experiences. You might be able to find one at a wreckers..... but you'll
have to be careful. Through the late '90s, there were at least three
incarnations of intakes for the 4.0 and the uppers, lowers and electronics
are not interchangeable.
I'd rate this repair as a medium skill repair.... basic hand tools
(including sockets), a reasonable amount of mechanical aptitude and a
healthy dose of patience.
