1997 GT - Blinking lights after changing battery
Hi there,
I have a stomper. I just bought this 1997 GT and was told that it did not
have a Keyless Entry System or remotes. Anyway, I replaced the battery and
when I put it in the lights started blinking outside and inside the car. The
lights will blink four or five times, then stop for about 5 or 7 seconds and
do it all over again. I followed the clicking sound under the dash and
found a "Keyless Entry Control Unit" there. I guess there are some things
that I was not told about and find out slowly.
The problem is - how do I stop the blinking lights? I had to disconnect the
battery since I was not sure what to do. I am not driving the car yet since
it is not registered but would like to clean it and get these bugs out of
the system before taking it out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Manny,
You apparently do have the Keyless Entry installed in that car. Since
remotes are about $60 from the dealer the seller of the car may have not
wanted to spend money on a car the were selling.
You can either disconnect the Keyless Remote module (not sure how
personally) or buy a remote from a dealer or online.
If you buy the remote, it will come with instructions for programing the
remote. Once it is programed, you can lock and unlock the doors and the
flashing lights will stop.

Off the module, you should find a small pushbutton switch. Turn the key to
the run position and press the switch for one second. That should reset the
module.

This actually sounds like an aftermarket unit, (omega, code alarm, possibly
lojack) There generally was a overide switch, black button, silver toggle,
could even be a window, high beams, rear defroster....
The alarm system was probably pulled by the dealer as they did not have
programmable remotes for the unit, check to see if there are any numbers
model, serial that are on the keyless module. Go to a local alarm shop and
check what make and if they can get the remotes? is all the hardware there?
or can they remove all the remaining hardware.
