1993 Nissan Altima won't start
Car had about 100K miles. Took car to Nissan dealership. Found the
distributor was shot. Had to buy a new one. Not cheap though. About
$500.00! It's running fine now.

common problem.
I wish I had a dollar for every distributor on an Altima that I replaced

This is a common failure, the oil seal fails and allows oil to enter
from the rear of the distributor. It's too late for you, but others
may be able to fix by draining the oil from the camshaft sensor area
within the distributor and replacing a $3.26 oil seal on the back side
of the distributor. Many have been fixed by this cheap repair. If the
dealer has to order this part, you can get back on the road
immediately by removing the internal dustcover inside of the
distributor and cleaning the oil off of the metal disc and sensor with
paper towels and compressed air. This could save you bigbucks. This is
what I did to my sons GXE 2 months ago and no problems since.
