Infiniti: 1990 Q45 A?C problems

Only blows from the top vents in the dash (defroster vents). And the
control unit display goes dark. Not sure if it's a vacuum problem or
display unit problem. Before I go out and find a new control unit I
wanted to ask if anyone has had this problem. thanks in advance.
