    1986 Grand Prix

I am looking at a 1986 Grand Prix with the 305 V8. I was wondering if there
is anyone in the NG who has any experience with these cars, and if anyone
had any other input on this car.

Look at the 86-87 Monte Carlo as well, it's almost the same car but
has the "aero" headlamps and is more reliable. If this car has
buckets, console, t-roofs, you're laughing because they're beautiful
cars. Not a big fan of the 305, but that's what most of them came
    with.

    Cheers,

I have an '87 Grand Prix with the 305 that I like so much I've kept it
around as an extra car and have no plans of getting rid of it. The '87 is
almost identical to the '86. It's been very reliable. 118,000 miles and
not much more than normal maintenance. I have had to replace the water
pump, alternator, and radiator but that's about it. The car has never
broken down on the road or been towed.

The only problem I've had is some rust. Until recently, I didn't have a
garage to keep her in and I live in the North East so the salt in the winter
has taken it's toll on the bottoms of the doors. You can't really see the
rust from the outside but if you pull off the chrome strips(if it has them)
on the bottom of the doors, you may see some spots. More importantly,
actually look at the bottoms of the doors. Mine rusted from the inside out.
I just picked up two doors from Arizona that I need to paint and throw on.
After that, she'll look nearly as good as new.

Not to mention, the ride is great. You feel like you're floating down the
    highway.
