Nissan Altima: 04 Altima radio reception

04 Altima radio reception
I'm new here so if this has been covered I apologize. Is there any reason
why my radio reception in my '04 Altima sucks? It has the in window
antenna. I have a Kenwood eXcelon head unit but the reception sucked just
as bad if not worse with the stock radio. I was just wondering if this is a
commom problem. I had a '96 200 SX-SER with the same receiver in it and it
was fine. Thanks in advance.

Re: 04 Altima radio reception
I'd be willing to be the reception with the OEM unit was just great until
you decided to mess with it.
I'd be willing to be that the radio installer you used did not know what he
was doing when he installed your new unit.
So needless to say you have just voided your warranty on any and all
components that are now hooked up to the "new and improved" radio you
installed, so I guess you are pretty much fuc*ed.
I'll give you a hint, it is 2 words
signal amplifier
I'll bet it is not turning on

No, the reception was lousy with the factory radio as I stated before. It
was also lousy with the '04 Altima I test drove prior to getting mine.
I was the one that installed the new unit and I did know what I was doing.
I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem and if so, what
they did to correct it.
Thanks.

Re: 04 Altima radio reception
Just stumbled on this newsgroup.
Radio reception in my new '05 is lousy too. I will ask them about it at my
first oil change. Very annoying to not get local radio stations well.
Unrelated to radio, I hear and feel a relatively high pitched buzzing or
whine when I accelerate in this vehicle. Not sure where it is coming
from...but sounds like engine compartment. Thoughts, anyone?

Re: 04 Altima radio reception
Hey, Hank. I asked the sales manager about this and he says that this is
the first he has heard about it. I don't think he would B.S. me about it,
seeing how he is a good friend. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this
issue. And yes, it's very annoying not to get local FM or AM stations.
Sorry to hear about your other issue. Good luck.

So why did you buy one?

Re: 04 Altima radio reception
Because the car had too many positive features including a very good price
to let the radio reception sway my decision. Plus, I knew I was putting in
my Kenwood receiver and I thought that would correct the problem. It
obviously didn't.

The receiver has nothing to do with reception, I would suggest you try an
aftermarket signal booster, or maybe a sirius or something.

Re: 04 Altima radio reception
I was looking into Sirius. Thanks for the reply.

Gus
I was checking with you about your reception. It appears that there are a
couple JA on the system. I also had very bad reception with an aftermarket
Unit. I did get Sirius and love it, but the problem is the window antenna.
The only way I see around this problem is to install an aftermarket
antenna. Let us know how it works out.
