Nissan Altima: '02 Altima Brakes

'02 Altima Brakes
Hello,
The brakes on my wifes '02 are squeeking quite a bit. The dealer says it's
normal with this type of brakes. She's got 36,000 miles on the originals.
Can anyone comment?
Thanks,
Mike

Depends on the type of squeeling, but many newer disk-brakes have low
tolerances, and any bit of dust or sand can cause ocassional squeeling.
Generally if it is the brake squeelers, you'll hear that at any brake
pressure, where as with dust/etc, you may only hear it at certain brake
pressures. But when it comes to brakes, I'd rather err on the side of
safety.

Re: '02 Altima Brakes - Update
Well, my wife took the car in to the dealer again and complained about the
squeeking. They looked at the fronts and rears and said she needed rear
pads. I told her to just have it done - $150. Does this seem right, both the
cost and the life of the rear pads?
Thanks,
Mike

36k seems very early for rear pads. Price is ok

Thanks You Know Who
I just saw a service bulletin at Nissan that said the non asbestos pads tend
to squeek even under normal operation. Would have been nice if they told my
wife that before they sold her on the work.
